Overview
Root canal treatment is a specialized procedure used to save a tooth that is badly decayed or infected. When the pulp—the soft tissue inside the tooth—becomes inflamed or infected, it can cause severe pain and lead to abscesses.
During the procedure, the infected pulp is carefully removed, and the canals are cleaned, disinfected, and sealed. This eliminates the infection and saves your natural tooth, preventing the need for extraction.
Contrary to popular belief, modern root canal treatment is a comfortable procedure, similar to getting a filling. Since a root-canaled tooth becomes more brittle, we typically recommend a crown to restore its strength and function.
